There are certain consequences which are common to all drug crimes in Texas

Deportation - Any drug offense is a listed deportable offense for non-citizen residents. Additionally, non-citizen aliens can be deported after a determination that they are drug addicts or abusers. If you are a non-citizen and you have been charged with any drug crime, please seek counsel from an immigration lawyer before you make any decisions on your criminal case.

Financial Aid - Drug offense convictions can disqualify a student from eligibility for Federal Student Aid. It is not a total bar, and sometimes a student can reinstate his eligibility by taking a rehabilitation class. See the FAFSA site's explanation for more details on eligibility.

License Suspension - All drug offenses carry an automatic suspension of the defendant's license on conviction. This can normally be avoided if a non-conviction alternative like deferred adjudication is made available
