Felony drug convictions are subject to some special consequences that other felony convictions don't automatically carry. Namely, disqualification from certain Federal benefits.

Anyone convicted of a drug-related felony is disqualified from receiving any aid through the following programs:

  • Food Stamps
  • TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families) also called Welfare
  • Federal Housing Assistance under Section 8. In fact, any drug-related activity goes on in Federally assisted housing, the family can be evicted
  • Student Loans or any Federal Student Aid including Pell Grants.
